About Rate Comps

Founded by two long-time real estate investors, Rate Comps is a web site and blog focusing solely on residential mortgage rates, quotes, research and discussion. We have partnered with industry-leading firm HomeGain, to bring our users access to the leading tools and services available in the industry. At Rate Comps, users can begin their search for the best mortgage deal to buy, refinance or access the equity in their home. They can also begin their search for a real estate agent to help them buy or sell a house, sign up to see a copy of their FICO credit score (the same report that mortgage brokers use to determine creditworthiness) and begin a search for nationwide real estate MLS listings.

In addition, the Rate Comps web site has been developed primarily to provide information to consumers about the basics of mortgage borrowing. Various lending instruments are described in detail, as are the overall borrowing process, the importance of credit scores, and various loan terms and mortgage financing options that are available. Rather than describe the various facets of mortgage borrowing in the standard manner, the writers and researchers at Rate Comps begin by providing relevant facts and details of a given topic and then provide real-world scenarios and examples that support this presentation. The result is a more readable, "user-friendly" experience that makes reading and learning about mortgages much less cumbersome.

We, the founders of Rate Comps, have been through the process of financing, re-financing and borrowing on equity in our own homes and investment properties on many occasions and, as such, we have a firm grasp of the processes involved. We bring 15 years of real estate investing and mortgage financing experience to the Rate Comps site and we continue to invest in real estate and research mortgage financing options as we move forward in our own business endeavors. As we do so, we will share information with the audience of Rate Comps and invite all of our readers to participate by commenting on blog posts and asking questions when encountering a topic about which they are uncertain.
